On Friday 11th of December, as the end of the first term approached, Ashfield pupils and staff made their annual pilgrimage to St Mark’s Church, at the top of the Holywood Road, for our festive carol service. Recently, we elected our student council for 2015-16 using the electoral system of First Past the Post. Each class elected a class representative and each of the class representatives stood for election for each year group to determine who they wished to elect as their Year Representative. Ethan Warnock (11A2) received a well-deserved call up at full school boys’ international level to represent Northern Ireland U16s in the Victory Shield.
Ethan took part in the tournament, held in Newport, Wales, on Sunday 1st November 2015, playing against Wales, Scotland and ROI.

On Friday 9th October 2015 representatives from each Year 9 class were invited to our Small World Café event. People from the Belfast Friendship Club were invited to share their experiences of moving to and living in Belfast, having come from elsewhere. Our visitors were from Zimbabwe, Colombia, Italy, Sri Lanka and Somalia. Our pupils really enjoyed having the opportunity to find out more from our guests and ask questions in an informal and welcoming setting.

On Wednesday 30th September, our Year 13’s attended Belfast City Council’s Road Safety Event at the City Hall, hosted by CoolFM’s Pete Snodden.
Our pupils learned of the dangers of speeding and driving carelessly on the roads.
The PSNI, Fire Brigade and NI Ambulance Service shared personal and deeply moving accounts of some of the worst calls they have ever had to attend to.

32 boys and 4 staff attended Ireland v Canada on Saturday 19th September 2015 at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, for a Rugby World Cup Group D match. What a fantastic experience and opportunity for everyone involved to witness a World Cup rugby game. Everyone involved had a fantastic trip and witnessed Ireland beating the Canadians by 50 points to 7.
