Online Reputation and Protection Event

On Thursday 6 April 2017, 15 boys from across year 10 had the opportunity to attend an “Online Reputation & Protection Event” at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, hosted by Wayne Denner, a Digital Ninja. Wayne is a digital entrepreneur who has worked in the digital sector for the likes of BBC, UTV and leading industry experts in the Middle East.

Digital Youth Event 2017

Twenty year 10 boys had the pleasure of attending the Digital Youth Event 2017 in partnership with South Belfast Partnership Board and Digital South.

The morning started with Michael Graham, Chair of South Belfast Partnership Board, welcoming all schools and students to the event.  This was shortly followed by some key speeches from leading industry experts from the likes of Deloitte and Fujitsu.

Digital Project – Inverary Community Centre

Ashfield Boys’ teamed up with Belfast City council, Barclays bank and Linking Generations to take part in a digital age project. This took place over four weeks starting on the 8th of February. Cross Community Cup

It was a fantastic occasion at our Year 8 Cross-Community Cup on Friday (24th February). Co-ordinated by Mr Millar and Mr Spence, we welcomed teams from Boys Model, Abbey College, Our Lady & St Patrick’s, Parkhall College and Ballyclare Secondary.

The boys had a great time! Ashfield ended up winning… well done Mr Tumelty and his team!
Good to see our old student teacher Mr Blain, now a PE teacher in Ballyclare, over with a team!

The Grand National Trophy

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Grand National Trophy on Tour.  Rhys Jenkins, Year 9 Student Council representative, had the honour of unveiling the new trophy to our Year 9 pupils.

This is the first time a Northern Irish company have sponsored this annual event and the Randox team shared their message of preventive health and informed us more on the work that they do.  A unique experience for everyone!

Disability Sport Project

As part of our Shared Education programme – 11B2 took part in a Disability Sport project which was facilitated by Disability Sport NI.

The boys had a great day exploring the challenges of disability and then took part in sports with a difference. We look forward to welcoming Disability Sport NI back next week when we join up with Mitchell House. Well done boys you were a credit to the school today!

‘App Club’ visit University of Ulster for a workshop

On Tuesday 21 February 2017, the ‘Ashfield App Club’ were invited to the University of Ulster, School of Art, Belfast, to take part in an ‘App Workshop’ as part of the NI Science Festival 2017.

Zach Norwood, Tiago Marques, Joshua Thompson, Craig McCord, Travis Lord and Owen Kelly (Ashfield App Club members) took part in the workshop.

Stem Club

Last month the boys in the STEM Club entered the Practical Action’s Design for a Better World competition.  This was an engineering competition in which the boys had to design a technological innovation that would contribute towards a better world for society.  This was a UK wide competition with hundreds of entries but four of our pupils came in the top 50!  The boys in the top 50 received a certificate and a £5 gift voucher ...

Student Election January 2017

Today was our election day……a chance for our Year 8’s to decide on whom they wish to elect as their Year 8 representative.  Each class has already chosen a representative for their class however the Year Representative will sit on the Student Council and have extra responsibility in relation to the views of the entire Year 8 body.
